AESICS CSI Student Branch Activity

Seminar on Microsoft .NET Technologies by Microsoft Student Partner
The Seminar was organized by AESICS-CSI Student Branch on 27th October, 2007. Mr. Aditya Patel, AESICS-CSI Student Branch Counselor gave introduction of Mr. Pravin Parmar, who is the Microsoft Student Partner, AESICS. The objective of the seminar was to provide knowledge of Microsoft .NET Framework and .NET technologies and role in software development. Mr. Pravin Parmar explained the different types of application architectures and the.NET Platform vision of N-tier architecture and web services. He then provided detailed explanation of .NET Framework components, .NET Class library, ASP.NET component and Web services. He also explained the concept of Common Language Runtime (CLR) by giving demo of VB.NET, C#.NET and ASP.NET application development using Visual Studio 2005 .NET IDE. The program was followed by question and answer session. Total 60 students participated in the programme. Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Aditya Patel, AESICS-CSI Student Branch Counselor.

Lecture on Student to Business Program by Microsoft
A lecture was arranged by AESICS-CSI Student Branch on 19th October, 2007. Mr. Aditya Patel, AESICS-CSI Student Branch Counselor welcomed the participants. Mr. Samir Patel, Assistant Professor, AESICS gave introduction of the speaker, Mr. Tejas Shah, who is an Academic Developer Evangelist with Microsoft India. He works closely with the academic communities in India, evangelizing and sharing the vision on next generation technologies from Microsoft. The objective of the talk was to introduce the students to the next generation Microsoft’s Software+Services model and the Student2Business Program by Microsoft. S2B program is a community initiative involving Microsoft, State Governments and colleges to help students enhance their career opportunities by providing them with training opportunities, helping them obtain globally recognized certifications and providing them with the platform to showcase their ideas to the world. Mr. Tejas Shah introduced the concept for Software+Services, its importance and impact in the coming years and Microsoft’s bets on Software+Services model. The combination of ever-more-abundant bandwidth, increasingly powerful processors, and inexpensive storage is broadening the choices for designing, deploying, and using software: in devices, in computers, on servers in corporate data centers, and on the Internet. Business solutions can be delivered and consumed in all of these ways—either singly or in combination—to provide the best user experience and the most business value. Software + Services—meaning delivering software over the Internet—is increasingly popular for its ability to simplify deployment and reduce customer acquisition costs. Mr. Tejas Shah also give live demo of the latest offerings from Microsoft in the S+S space like Silverlight, XBOX 360, Windows Live among others. C++ Training Program
The Program on “C++ Programming” was organized by CSI Student Branch at AES Institute of Computer Studies, Ahmedabad during 1st – 14th May, 2007. The event was coordinated by Mr. Samir B. Pate,Asst Professor,AESICS . The core faculty member was Mr. Sujoy Pal,Lecturer, AESICS. The coverage of the training program emphasized on the basic concepts of object oriented programming like data-hiding, polymorphism, inheritance, etc. and its implementation using C++. Advanced topics of C++ (viz. runtime polymorphism, Run Time Type Identification, namespace, templates, standard template library and exception handling) were also covered in sufficient depth. The programme was followed by question and answering session on each day. Each participant was provided with a CD containing the complete presentation in PDF format along with solved and unsolved programs. The programme concluded with certificate distribution ceremony on last day in presence of Mr. Bipin V. Mehta,Director, AESICS.Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Aditya B. Lectures on ERP, Software Project Management, Data Security and Object Oriented Technology
The program was organized to guide TYBCA students in selecting the elective subjects in final year BCA. The event was coordinated by Mr. Aditya B. Patel. Mr. Samir Patel gave introduction of the CSI and its activities in the Institute. Mr. Bipin V. Mehta,Director, AESICS, welcomed the students and introduced them to the final year BCA syllabus and its importance in their career. Mrs. Shefali Naik began with introduction on project management, why it is required and SPM practices and its importance in software development. Mrs. Hemal Desai talked on ERP and its advantages to the various types of industries. Mr. Samir Patel focused on different aspects of data security and its growing importance in internet-based applications. Mr. Aditya Patel gave an introduction to the Object oriented technology and its benefits. The students gained insight about the various elective subjects offered in TYBCA which will help them in selecting the proper specialized subject in TYBCA. The programme was followed by question and answering session. Mr. Samir Patel motivated the students to become CSI members and take the advantage of CSI activities. The programme concluded with the summary given by Mr. Bipin V. Mehta. More than 100 students participated in the programme.

Seminar on BPO and career opportunities in IT and ITES
The Seminar was organized by AESICS-CSI Student Branch on 17th July, 2007. Mr. Sujoy Pal, Lecturer, AESICS, gave introduction of the invited speakers and brief introduction of the seminar. The objective of the seminar was to provide insight of BPO industry, its growing importance and career opportunities for graduates in BPO-ITES sector. Mr. Rajiv Vaishnav, Regional Director, NASSCOM, talked about CSI, its activities and the evolution of NASSCOM. He explained the difference between BPO and call-center and cleared the misconception about the BPO sector. He highlighted the growing importance and career opportunities in BPO sector by providing data from NASSCOM about the shortage of 2.7 million trained and qualified manpower in this sector. Mr. Rohit Kaushal , Citicorp, provided insight into the working of BPO and its activities. He talked about the business processes automated by his company and the work environment. Mr. Nikhil Gupta, NASSCOM, provided clear idea about the NAC Test (Nasscom Assessment of Competence) which is a national level assessment mechanism for individuals aspiring for a career in BPO sector. NAC can be used as a replacement for existing recruitment process for ITES. NAC will provide the testing all the four skills – writing and analytical, spoken English and listening. The NAC assessment is supported by Govt. of Gujarat and GIL, nodal agency of Govt. of Gujarat. The program was followed by question and answering session. Each participant was provided with information brochure about BPO and procedure to appear for NAC Test. Total 100 students participated in the programme. Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Bipin V. MCA Best Project Competition, 2007
The MCA Best Project Competition, 2007 was organized by CSI Ahmedabad Chapter in association with AESICS CSI Student Branch during 28th July, 2007. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Jyotikaben Doshi,Assistant Professor,GLSICT. The competition was organized to promote and encourage project development of MCA final year students by inviting nominations from all MCA institutes of Gujarat. The Competition started with introduction given by Mrs. Jyotikaben Doshi. Prof. Bhushan Trivedi,Chairman, CSI Ahmedabad Chapter and Prof. Harshal Arolkar,Hon. Secretary, CSI Ahmedabad Chapter, and other MC members were present. The project presentations were given by all the participating students and each presentation was followed by interesting questions from judges as well as from the audience. Each participant was provided with a registration kit which included the ADCOM-2004 Conference Proceedings. Mr. G.F. Vohra (SAC-ISRO), Mr. Pravin Jain, Mr. Vasanth Kumar (SAC-ISRO) and Mr. Jimit Mahadeviya (Elitecore) were judges. The following projects were judged best by the panel of judges
1. BookMark Manager and Task Manager by Mr. Baburam Mistry and
Mr. Ruchit Surati (NICM).
2. Prepress Imposition by Ms. Severina D’souza (GLSICT).
The top two winning teams received cash prizes sponsored by Gateway Technolabs Pvt. Ltd, Ahmedabad and all other participants were given consolation prizes sponsored by Elitecore Technologies Ltd, Ahmedabad. The programme concluded with prizes given for best SDP-II projects of AESICS in presence of Mr. Bipin V. Mehta ,Director, AESICS. AESICS SDP-II first prize was given to Mr. Kunal Somani, second prize to Ms. Vidhi Shah and third prize to Ms. Mitali Gupta. AESICS SDP-I first prize was given to Ms. Mitali Gupta. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Pratik Munshi,Assistant Professor, AESICS and Mrs. Jyotikaben Doshi, Assistant Professor, GLSICT. Vote of thanks was given by Prof. Harshal Arolkar.

Work Shop on Assembly Language Programming
A workshop on Assembly Language Programming was organized by AESICS-CSI student branch on 2nd September, 2007. The workshop was coordinated and conducted by Mr. Samir B. Patel, Assistant Professor , AESICS. There were 38 participants including few faculty members from various institutes. Mr. Aditya Patel welcomed all the participants and introduced Mr. Samir B. Patel He encouraged the students to become a member of CSI. In first session Mr. Samir B.Patel covered the basic architecture of 8086 Microprocessor and demonstrated how to use DEBUG utility for debugging the assembly language program. He showed how the segment and offsets are used for the program under execution. He also showed the difference in writing a program under TASM and MASM. In second session he covered various addressing modes, instruction types, assembler directives, instructions, interrupts, in-line assembly in ‘C’ program, .COM program and Interrupt Vector table. In the last session he demonstrated various programs of assembly language using MASM611. In his session he showed practically how to design and use macros, procedures. He then covered various programs which took care of ASCII to INTEGER conversion and vice-versa, Factorial of a number, BIOS date, available conventional memory, reset a computer, reading a string from the keyboard using services of 01 and 09 of DOS, Reverse of a string using stack etc. Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Bipin V. Mehta, National Student Coordinator-CSI. He motivated students to participate in more such activities and told them to be a member of CSI. He also motivated the faculty participants to organize such activities in their institutions and showed his willingness to share the scholar input of the faculty members. At the end of the session all the participants were given certificates and resource CD.

Training Program on BlueJ
AESICS CSI-Student Branch conducted a Training Programme for the students of Zydus School of Excellence. The Training was given to 10th standard students of ICSE board. The basic objective was to provide coverage of core Java using BlueJ. The training was conducted and coordinated by Mr. Samir B. Patel,Assistant Professor, AESICS. The duration of the training was of 12 hours in 5 weeks during July-August: 2007. The training covered the fundamentals of programming language and the basics of core java including classes, objects, Inheritance, Polymorphism, Exception, Wrapper classes, packages, Exception handling, Access specifiers, IO streams etc. There was overwhelming response from students and faculty members of the school. 30 participants were benefited by this training programme. Reading and practice material was provided to the students by Mr. Samir B. Patel. Vote of thanks was given by Ms. Krupa Patel, Computer Incharge, Zydus School of Excellence.
